Easy listening and soothing piano music have always been synonymous with the name Richard Clayderman. Ever since he spawned his colossal smash piano ballad original "Ballade pour Adeline" at the young age of 23, Richard Clayderman has become a household name. That hit single not only opened new doors for him but also propelled him to superstardom. Clayderman's prodigious musical abilities got him into the Conservatoire de Paris at age twelve. Due to some financial difficulties within his family, he took on an office job and worked as a musician on a part-time basis. French record producers Olivier Toussaint and partner Paul de Senneville called for an audition for over two dozen pianists, which included an invitation to Richard Clayderman to audition for a special collaboration and commissioned work as a pianist for the latter's ballad composition in tribute to his young daughter. "He was an interesting musician with a soft touch and good technique", says Toussaint, "and he looked good, too.", he adds, as to why Clayderman landed the job. "Ballade pour Adeline" paved the way for Clayderman to be known the world over. The song sold over 22 million copies in 38 countries. "He has arguably done more to popularise the piano around the world than anyone since Beethoven", as it is written on his 40th Anniversary double CD album inlay.

Richard Clayderman is touted as the creator of the 'New Romantic" style, which has endeared him to a wide variety of audiences, mesmerizing them with his exquisite and masterful skill, alongside his charming and magnetic appeal onstage. “I love performing live on stage…I like to mix different tempos, rhythms, and styles to evoke all kinds of emotions,” says Clayderman. He has recorded and released several albums with over 1,300 melodies, selling over 70 million units, and has 267 gold and 70 platinum albums to his name. The numbers don't lie and with the endearment of fans through the years Richard Clayderman truly deserves the Guinness Book of World Records' citation as being "the most successful pianist in the world".
