Truth: Mayhem is at the forefront of the black metal scene. They are pioneers. They brought their brand of bellicose, extraordinary black metal to over 60 countries and stunned, bewildered, and turned rabid a global legion of metal heads.
Mayhem smashed into the metal scene in 1987 with the release of their EP, “Deathcrush. The album was highly influential, amassing a loyal following through notorious live performances. Mayhem’s debut studio album, “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas”, dropped in 1987, shortly after the band temporarily disbanded following tragedy. The band reformed in 1995 with new members, and a new album, “Ordo Ad Chao”, was released in 2007 to much acclaim. To date, Mayhem has released six studio albums and seven recorded live performances.
More truth: “Mayhem’s show sucked” – said no one ever. They have over 1000 sold-out shows to their name and are without a doubt one of the best extreme metal has to offer. Their music is a frenetic collection of earth-shaking head bangers, and whilst the band had its fair share of controversies, their success and influence are solidly rooted in impeccable musicianship. Atilla Csihar’s vocals cover every style imaginable – from shrieks to rasps to gutturals to ominous, clean, monk-like chanting. Hellhammer’s drumming is inescapable: it is nuanced and groovy when necessary and an absolute assault on the crowd with a steady wall of blasts and kicks when the music calls for it.
XXXX will see the band perform an exclusive career-spanning set list, including rare footage and iconic photos from across their notorious history, in celebration of their four-decade-long legacy of musical evolution and boundary-pushing performances. This is the only time fans will be able to experience the celebratory and rare era of the godfathers of black metal – the production will be laid to rest at the end of the tour.
