Half Alive is an indie pop band consisting of Josh Taylor (lead singer), Brett Kramer (drums), and J. Tyler Johnson (bass). Their style has been characterized to be along the genres of indie pop, pop, alternative rock, dance-pop, electronic rock, and electropop, with the incorporation of R&B, funk, and soul sounds. To expand their reach, the band has experimented with different genres with large influences from the 60s and 70s pop. Common themes in their music are anxiety and religion.
Half Alive was founded after Josh Taylor's band, the Moderates, was disbanded. Motivated to create music with style, the trio recorded their debut Ep "3" on the Mojave Dessert, inside a helicopter hangar turned into a studio. When the EP was released in 2017, it gained millions of online streams and spawned appealing singles "The Fall" and "Aawake at Night." In the summer of 2018, they released the single "Still Feel," which was their first track to reach the Billboard Alternative Top Ten. This success strengthened their debut album, "Now, Not Yet" release. In 2022, their sophomore album "Conditions of a Punk" landed and was received well by critics and listeners.
