Known for her run of legendary tracks, she found international success with the classic 1983 release, “Timely!!” The record served her hits “Cat's Eye” and “Kanashimi ga Tomaranai” (I Can't Stop the Loneliness). ABOUT ANRI

Eiko Kawashima, or as she’s widely known as ANRI, is Japanese singer-songwriter hailing from the Kanagawa Prefecture. She began her career in music back in 1978 with the release of “Oribia o Kikinagara,” but her commercial success came later by 1983 as “Timely!!” dominated airwaves. Her hit single “Cats Eye” was used as the opening theme of eponymous 1983 anime series, and debuted at #1 on Countdown Japan. Her track was also among the first J-pop songs to be used as an anime theme song. Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, her albums were consistently bestsellers, and she frequently had sold-out tours. One of her shows even had an attendance of over 100,000 people! 

Anri’s other hits include “Summer Candles,” “Dolphin Ring,” “Remember Summer Days,” and “Shyness Boy.” Over the years, she’s won a crowd for her great work in city pop — with loyal fans standing by her side, and new generations of listeners discovering this unique genre. As city pop sees a resurgence in popularity, many of her tracks have been sampled by vaporwave and future funk artists who became fascinated with her unique energies. Anri has further caught the public eye beyond Japan, a legacy that’s bound to live on.
