Andrew Thomas Callaghan hails from Philadelphia, and ngrew up in Capitol Hill in Seattle. Said to hate "every class from the first day of kindergarten to [his] last day of college," with the exception of a journalism class, the man was convinced to pursue journalism for his career. Gaining a full scholarship to study journalism, the man made the dream come true.
In Bourbon Street, he worked as a doorman and recalled the "hellish scenes" he sae about evey single day. Wanting to document them in a clever way, he began interviewing people on the streets, seeking amusing tales of their darkest secrets. Callaghan then took his discoveries to YouTube and Instagram, calling it "Quarter Confessions" - straight from its location in the French Quarter. The man gained a massive following and people were hooked on the stories he covers.
The man isn't hitting the brakes anytime soon, and he's out here taking his bizzare finds and interesting content off of your screens and onto the big stage. But first, let's take a look back to 2019 when he published "All Gas, No Brakes: A Hitchhiker's Diary," a memoir-zine packed with stories across a 7-day hitchhiking adventure across America. His YouTube series "All Gas No Brakes" was brought about by this memoir as his Quarter Confessions series led to a partnerhsip with Doing Things Media - agreeing to fund his new project.
In 2021, he dropped the first content for Channel 5, created by the core members behind All Gas No Brakes. With a "man on the street" interview style + long-form documentary films, the project brought out his "gonzo journalism" style for its unfiltered and immersive content. Capturing unconventional cultures, topics, events, and unique perspectives, his content has amassed over 3 million subscribers.
Despite the laughs that his work generates, Callaghan shares that all of his content - from amusing takes to serious pieces, journalism is no joke. In an interview with The Face, the man shares how rewarding it is to have his own independent venture.
"My style is empathetic and open-minded. Let people just go down the rabbit hole and just kind of gently encourage their train of thought until it runs itself into the ground,"
