Listen to this, okay? Just listen. You hear that? That’s Anamanaguchi hitting The Wiltern’s stage for the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off LIVE concert on November 17, Friday!

“Anamanaguchi is a great band to dance, jump around, move erratically, or just nod your head to… Great stage presence and visuals. They were obviously having a great time and very humble and appreciative of their audience who adored them. Very personable guys, not at all ‘rock stars.’”

Anamanaguchi is kicking off the world premiere of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, a Netflix animated series, with a special one-night-only musical event! Presented by Live Nation Entertainment, the concert will debut a handful of original tracks from the show composed by the band’s talents: lead guitarist-songwriters Peter Berkman and Ary Warnaar, with James DeVito on bass and Luke Silas on drums.

Edgar Wright, among others, will produce the anime adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels. The ensemble cast of the 2010 cult classic movie–Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Evans, Brie Larson, Kieran Culkin, etc.–will also reprise their roles.

Unlike Scott, these guys actually know how to play bass! We think. Anamanaguchi’s sound–a polymerization of bitpop, rock, and chiptune–invokes intense throwback nostalgia to 90s arcades and gaming culture. They innovate on traditional instrumentation by introducing electronic beeps and blips from NES and GameBoy hardware, a stylistic lottery match for the upcoming show and concert.

That said, the group’s history with Scott Pilgrim goes way back. Thirteen years ago, Ubisoft hired Anamanaguchi to compose for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. Its soundtrack, including bops such as “Another Winter,” “Party Stronger,” and “Just Like In The Movies,” topped several Billboard charts, with a notable 3rd place peak in US Heartseeker ranks. Some songs from the game might make appearances, so keep your ears ready!

As for our venue, The Wiltern in downtown Los Angeles, California, will oversee the clash between classical art-deco architecture and retro video game-inspired music. Superb lighting design. Wide sightlines. Reverberating acoustics. It’s the complete concert package!

There won’t be any last-minute, poorly-set-up deus ex machina that’ll get you in the show, so buy your tickets now! Anamanaguchi will take The Wiltern for a 16-bit beatdown on Friday, November 17, 2023, with their Scott Pilgrim Takes Off LIVE concert special!
